Energetic Materials Lab of Semenov Federal Research Center for Chemical Physics, Russian Academy of Sciences is focused on various aspects of the reactive materials from structure (probe and electron microscopy, tomography) and manufacturing (3D-printing) through the kinetics and thermochemistry (thermal analysis, quantum chemistry), to performance (combustion, agglomeration) and application (e.g., pyrotechnic devices).
Laboratory was established in 1983 from the group of the laboratory of explosive processes (founded in 1931 by Yuli B. Khariton and Nikolay N. Semyonov). First head of Laboratory was D.Sc. Yurii V. Frolov, the main focus of research was combustion of the metallized energetic condensed systems. The works on the ignition and combustion of aluminum were recognized by USSR State Prize in 1986. In 2002 the first nanosized energetic materials have been synthesized and characterized in Laboratory. Since 2013 the Laboratory is headed by D.Sc. Alla N. Pivkina.
